Farmers Market Manager

The Manchester Farmers Market Committee is posting the availability of a contract position for the Market Manager for 2018. The contract includes a maximum of 5 hours a week in April for prep work for the market and a maximum of 10 hours a week from May 10 through October 25th.  These hours include a mandatory 5 hours on Thursdays from 2:30 to 7:30 to manage the operation of the market at Chi-Broil Park in Manchester.  The additional 5 hours per week during the market season  is available to recruit vendors, organize events, prepare and distribute marketing materials, and other activities as approved by the Farmers Market Committee.

Specific responsibilities on market day include: setting up the market (signs, tables, tents, etc.), assign vendors to space, collect vendor fees, welcome customers, ensure market area is a safe environment, perform customer counts, operate machine to run EBT cards (and other food assistant programs) if the market offers these services, conduct customer surveys, run events or coordinate with other people responsible for events, collect data on sales, prepare necessary market summaries.

Past experience managing a Farmers Market is an advantage.   The MIFMA Farmers Market Manager certification is a plus but not required.

  • Must be available all Thursdays during the market season.
  • Good organizational skills, good working knowledge of Excel, Word, Powerpoint and email (Google), excellent interpersonal skills and good working knowledge of how to use social media (post on Facebook, modify websites using Word Press, etc.) are all a must.
  • Knowledge (and passion) about why buying local food is important to individuals, families and the local economies is also a must.
